Vision for the Community of Bozeman

i. Retain and improve the natural assets we love such as opening up Bozeman Creek and improving the Baxter Creek corridor
ii. Ensure all new roads are multi-modal, prioritizing safe bicycle and pedestrian travel.
iii. Review ridgeline ordinances so that we can get ahead of the next development surge with a fitting policy that addresses the differences between building on the valley floor versus the foothills.
iv. When future questions arise requiring the City to choose between the standards that made Bozeman great and those that will make us look like Anywhere, USA you have a mayor in place that will error on the side of our natural beauty and health.
i. Pass a resolution stating the City will go beyond basic Open Government laws
ii. Hold public meetings when the public can attend and interact, including regular forums, debates and
discussions on city policy outside Commission meetings.
iii. Improve the community public access channel to include debates and public events
plus be used by any community or education entity (provided in lieu of right of way franchise fee)
iv. Open up City, County, State and Federal government agendas to the public in a more accessible fashion.
v. Free up information on a user friendly City Commission website
1. Webcast Commission meetings with video
2. Post all voting records on City website for past 8 years
3. Post the city budget on a searchable website
4. Provide a virtual form that will be submitted to commissioners as official background material
5. Provide a venue that lists all upcoming issues, post background information, allow users to officially
submit comments and questions.
6. Post ethics and election policy with campaign contribution data for each candidate
III. Long-Term Economic Development –
i. Bozeman is open for business! We can be pro-business, pro-community and pro-environment
ii. Make the right thing easy
1. Incentives to make the right choices – expedite positive investment
2. Create an Economic Development Authority.
iii. Facilitate forums with constituents from small businesses, downtown, the malls and large consumer good
stores to align our collective priorities
iv. Enforce long-term fiscal responsibility of city expenditures.
IV. Effective Growth Management–
i. Work with Bozeman’s outside edge communities to register voters and bring constituents into the fold.
Give the community ownership of its policies
iv. Talk to neighborhoods about how they would like to see growth and community ideals come together
v. Enhance dialog with County, City and building industry on impact fees, building code, permitting,
planning, subdivision development, planning documents, zoning and development right transfers.
V. Keep Education a Priority –
i. Facilitate and coordinate bond efforts with school board and Gallatin County
ii. Assist County is capital development planning to meet Bozeman's growing education needs
iii. Assist in the creation of a two-year junior college to assist workforce development.
i. Bring the city to the table with County and State corrections to construct a new police station with
municipal courts.
ii. Open police and criminal records up to the public in a more accessible fashion on the Internet to increase
awareness for neighbors and parents
i. Complete and implement the Bozeman Cultural Council's "Living Plan".
